Odyssey

The Odyssey Platform

The Odyssey platform provides a profound advancement over the ad hoc, error prone and inefficient manual mechanism that are commonly employed in the industry today.Odyssey does this by capturing the critical technical knowledge and processes required to manage software assets into automated reusable entities.Odyssey uses these reusable entities to perform end-to-end automation of processes that were once only possible through elaborate, labor-intensive, manual procedures.

Key Odyssey Features

  • Extensive capabilities for application and content change management
  • Plug-in support for seamless integration with 300+ technologies and vendor solutions
  • Extensive support for fine grained security,  audit and reporting
  • Captures key operational knowledge and converts it into a hard asset that can be re-used throughout the Enterprise
  • Platform independent and browser based solution
Distributed Agents
Odyssey uses a hybrid architecture that centralizes management, control, and security functions and performs automated actions"in-place" throughout your computing infrastructure.

The platform consists of a central Odyssey server and a set of distributed software agents as shown below.

Modular no-code Automation
Modular 'no-code' AutomationOdyssey provides an innovative description model that cleanly separates these concepts into distinct modular definitions that can be modified and replaced without "breaking" the entire workflow project computing infrastructure.

Many primitive automation tools use language-based workflow descriptions that combine resource definitions, security controls, and process definitions. This makes workflow descriptions inflexible, difficult to maintain, and almost impossible to reuse in new environments and applications. Odyssey addressed this problem by using an innovative description model that cleanly separates these concepts into distinct modular definitions that can be modified and replaced without "breaking" the entire workflow project. These models can be independently created and maintained by users that serve different roles within your organization (e.g., Security Administrator, Resource Manager, Project Editor, etc.). Additionally, Odyssey workflow projects are developed without resorting to the use of scripting or procedural, language-based tools.

Pluggable Technology
Pluggable Technology The Odyssey workflow engine was developed around an extensible framework that allows it to "plug-in" automation support for new software applications and technologies. Odyssey provides plug-in support for over 180+ technologies and vendor solutions.

Virtual Automation
Virtual Automation Odyssey utilizes a Virtual Automation Environment that isolates the process description from the details of the supporting hardware platform.

Virtual Execution Environments

Once a process has been automated, organizations will often want to reuse this solution in new settings that can have very different computing resources. Traditional automation solutions breakdown at the point when the execution context changes. However, Odyssey uses a Virtual Execution Environment that isolates the process description from the details of the supporting hardware platform. This means that automation projects can execute in: single server environments, large-scale server farms, or side-by-side with other Virtual Environments with no process-level changes. Additionally, these Virtual Environments can act as security domains that provide extremely fine-grained access control over what actions are allowed to occur in any context.

Management in-the-loop Controls
Odyssey provides extensive controls that allow project managers to stay "in-the-loop" of every automated process.

Odyssey provides project controls that allow managers to review and authorize any automated process.

Automatic Rollback
Automatic Rollback Odyssey provides automatic rollback capability that can "undo" the effects of it's actions up to the point that the exception occurred.

Automatic Rollback of run time errors

All applications and software can experience run time errors due to system configuration errors or problems with resources. When this happens Odyssey will automatically rollback "undo" the effects of it's actions up to the point that the exception occurred.

Role-based User Controls
Role-based User Controls Odyssey provides a sophisticated set of role-based security controls that confines users to information and functions that they "need-to-know" to do their job.

There are three overall access levels in the system:

  • System Configuration Access- Functions that maintain Odyssey software and monitor the health of the system
  • User and Group Access - Functions that create and maintain User accounts and User Groups
  • Resource Group Access - Functions necessary to create, and maintain specific automation projects
